Remote Work Statistics 2026
Every number on this page links to its primary source and the period it describes, or comes from our own dated count of remote job listings.
In March 2026, 22.6% of US workers teleworked or worked at home for pay (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). In September 2026, 26.8% of full paid working days were done from home and 12.1% of full-time wage and salary workers were fully remote (WFH Research). Remote jobs are much less open than the word suggests: on October 10, 2026, only 3,015 of 119,649 remote listings on Himalayas (2.5%) were open to applicants in any country, and about half were open to US applicants only (RoamJobs count).
How much US work is remote
The three main measures count different things, so they give different numbers. BLS counts people who did any telework in the survey week. WFH Research counts the share of full paid days worked from home. Gallup counts only employees whose jobs could be done remotely.
| Measure | Figure | Period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workers who teleworked or worked at home for pay Share of people at work. Ranged 21.5%–23.0% over the prior year. | 22.6% | March 2026 | US Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Economics Daily |
| Full paid working days done from home US workers earning $10,000+ a year. | 26.8% | September 2026 | WFH Research, Survey of Working Arrangements and Attitudes (monthly time series) |
| Full-time wage and salary workers who are fully remote 30.0% hybrid, 57.9% fully on site. | 12.1% | September 2026 | WFH Research, Survey of Working Arrangements and Attitudes (monthly time series) |
| Remote-capable employees who work exclusively remote 52% hybrid, 22% on site. Remote-capable jobs only. | 26% | May 2026 | Gallup, Indicator: Hybrid Work |

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What percentage of US workers work remotely in 2026?
It depends on the measure. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 22.6% of people at work teleworked or worked at home for pay in March 2026. WFH Research's monthly survey found 26.8% of full paid working days were done from home in September 2026, and 12.1% of full-time wage and salary workers were fully remote. We checked all three on October 10, 2026.
How many remote workers are fully remote versus hybrid?
Among US employees whose jobs can be done remotely, Gallup reported 26% exclusively remote, 52% hybrid and 22% on site as of May 2026. Across all full-time wage and salary workers, WFH Research reported 12.1% fully remote, 30.0% hybrid and 57.9% fully on site in September 2026. The difference is the base: Gallup counts only remote-capable jobs.
What share of remote job listings are open to applicants worldwide?
Very few. On October 10, 2026, RoamJobs counted 3,015 of the 119,649 remote listings on Himalayas (2.5%) as open to any country, and 2.7% of Jobicy's feed was marked "Anywhere". About half of new remote listings on both boards were open to US applicants only.
Where does this data come from?
Third-party figures come from the original publishers: the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, WFH Research and Gallup, each linked with the period it describes. Job-listing figures are RoamJobs' own dated count of two public job-board APIs. We do not publish a global count of remote workers because we have not found a primary source that measures one.

We checked every third-party figure against its original publisher on October 10, 2026. Each figure describes the period shown next to it, not the date we checked it.

Earlier versions of this page listed a global remote-worker count, salary premiums by role, and country and industry remote rates without a source for each figure. We removed them on October 10, 2026 rather than keep numbers we could not trace to a primary source.
